Before you book
Plan your trip
July is peak season in Bali, so flights and hotels book up fast. We'd recommend booking both by January, with free cancellation if you can.
Try to arrive at least two days before, so by Saturday 3 July. It's a long way to fly, and it gives you some slack if a flight is delayed.
Flying in
You'll fly into Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar (DPS). From London it's one stop, and we'd fly via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. If you can, land in the morning.
Before you fly
- PassportValid for at least six months from the day you arrive.
- e-Visa on ArrivalOnline at evisa.imigrasi.go.id · IDR 500,000 · 30 days. Apply at least a week before you travel.
- Arrival cardFree, at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id, in the 72 hours before you land.
Only use the official .go.id websites. There are lots of copycat sites that charge you for the same forms.
Where to stay
Accommodation
The venue is on the Bukit, the peninsula at the southern tip of Bali. We've only listed areas close to it. You can't really walk anywhere, so pick a place you're happy to spend the day at.
- Padang Padang 8 min
- The most central area. Lots of cafés and yoga, and a beach you get to through a gap in the cliff. Our pick if you haven't been to Bali before.
- Bingin 10 min
- Guesthouses on the cliff and some of the best coffee in the area. The beach below has been cleared, so it's more about the views now.
- Ungasan 12 min
- Quieter, with bigger resorts and infinity pools on the cliffs above Melasti beach. Good if you want a resort.
- Balangan 15 min
- A long, flat beach with smaller places to stay and gentle surf. Good if you have kids.
Drive times are to the venue, avoiding the 4 to 7pm traffic.
Traffic on the Bukit is bad and hard to predict, and in the afternoon a 35-minute drive can take two hours. Wherever you stay for the rest of your trip, please book somewhere near the venue for the night before the wedding, Sunday 4 July.
Getting around
Travel
- From the airport
- It's about 21km to the venue. That's around 45 minutes, or up to 90 if you land in the afternoon. Pre-book a car or use the official taxi desk in arrivals.
- Around the island
- The easiest way to get around is to hire a driver for the day. You pay per car, so it's cheaper if you share. Grab and Gojek are fine for short trips. Please don't hire a scooter. You need a motorcycle licence, and without one most travel insurance won't cover you.
- Timing
- Traffic onto the Bukit is bad between 4pm and 7pm because everyone heads there for sunset. Travel in the middle of the day if you can.
- On the day
- You'll need to make your own way to the venue. Book a driver for the evening to take you there and back, as it's hard to get a Grab late at night on the Bukit.
